Research Notes on Anti-Aging Drugs

Scientists are conducting preliminary research on anti-aging drugs that could prolong the human lifespan. These drugs target the mitochondria of tissue cells. Some medical professionals believe that diseases such as cancer, Parkinson's disease, and heart disease, all of which increase in frequency with age, are related to damage to the our mitochondria as we age. These anti-agings drugs will attempt to fix the damage to the mitochondria, and change the way we age.1

Fast Facts:

  • If such a drug were developed, there would be no warning signs to old age related deaths; a person's heart would simply stop beating.2
  • There are currently no drugs that can actually fight physiological aging.2
  • It is not anticipated that an anti-aging drug will be developed anytime in the near future.2
  • The best way to increase life span is to implement healthier diet, exercise, and living habits.2
