Simply because a product is natural does not mean that the product is free of animal products. Many cosmetic products have animal by-products in them. Stearic acid (octadecenoic acid), for example, is derived from tallow, other animal fats and oils. Tallow comes from the solid fat of sheep and cattle, separated from the membranous tissues. Vitamin A (A1, retinol), a popular ingredient, is a vitamin obtained from vegetables, egg yolks, or fish liver oil.
