Research Notes on Angioma
In the dermatology field, an angioma is a benign tumor consisting of small blood vessels, which are located anywhere on the body.1 There are many types, including both the cherry and spider varieties, amongst others.1 Alternately, a cavernous angioma is a vascular disorder of the central nervous system.2 It is also known as cerebral cavernous malformation and cavernoma.2
Fast Facts:
- Treatment for these benign tumors is not necessary, unless they are bothersome or bleed.1
- Generally, the causes of most angiomas in dermatology are unknown.1
- Cavernous angiomas affect approximately 0.5% of the population.2
