Research Notes on Angina Medications
Angina medications are used to prevent heart attacks and death.1 They are also prescribed to decrease the number of angina attacks you may have.1 Nitroglycerin is used to help relieve a sudden angina attack.2 In order to prevent an angina attack, your doctor will most likely recommend using a beta blocker.2 Other angina medications are used to control pain and improve quality of life.

- Calcium channel blockers work to relieve angina by lowering blood pressure.1
- Statins are used to help reduce LDL cholesterol levels, which is a main contributor to angina.1
- One of the most commonly used drugs for angina is aspirin. Aspirin can lower your risk of having a heart attack by one-third.2
