Research Notes on Angina
Angina is pain in the body and can be felt in many different parts of the body most commonly the chest. Angina may feel like pressure or a squeezing pain in the chest. The pain from angina may also occur in the shoulders, arms, jaw, or back. Angina may also feel like indigestion.
Fast Facts:
- Angina attacks usually happen to men after the age of 30 and are almost always cause by coronary artery disease. For women it happens later in life and can have may different causes including hyperthyroidism and anemia.
- Angina can be diagnosed with tests including x-rays, electrocardiogram (EKG) and coronary angiography.
- The treatment of angina may include lifestyle changes and medication such as beta blockers and calcium channel blockers .
- If the angina is caused by coronary artery disease treatment options may include angioplasty or bypass surgery.
