Research Notes on Anemarrhena
Anemarrhena (Anemarrhena asphodeloides or zhi mu) is a rare herb that has a long history in traditional Chinese medicine.1 It is used to treat heat disorders, such as fever, cough, and hot flashes.1 Chronic bronchitis, tuberculosis, and some forms of sexual dysfunction can also be treated with anemarrhena.2 It should not be used by those with diarrhea.2
Fast Facts:
- A typical dosage is 6 to 12 grams.2
- Some reports show anemarrhena to be effective against various bacteria, including those which cause such as staph infection, E. coli, salmonella, and cholera.1
- Side effects include breathing difficulties and low blood pressure.1
