Research Notes on Anesthesia
Anesthesia is a treatment that causes numbness to prevent pain. It is sometimes used on patients during surgery, labor and dental procedures. The three types of anesthesia are general, regional and local.
Fast Facts:
- Approximately 40 million anesthesia medications are used on Americans every year.
- Anesthesia gets its name from the Greek word anaisthesis, which means loss of sensation, with or without loss of consciousness.
- It has two spellings: anesthesia and anaesthesia.
