Amniocentesis is a fairly safe procedure if done correctly, but like all procedures and diagnostic tests there are always risks involved. Complications arising from this procedure are infection, miscarriage, and sometimes damage to the fetus or the umbilical cord. If you have questions before doing the procedure it is best to ask your doctor to fully understand the risks of this procedure.
