Amifostine, sold under the brand name Ethyol, is an injectable medication used in patients receiving radiation therapy for cancers of the head and neck. It is also used to protect the kidneys from damage caused by chemotherapy or radiation. Amifostine also helps prevent dry mouth caused by radiation therapy.
