Research Notes on Ambien Dosage
The standard dosing regimen for Ambien (zolpidem) is typically two 10mg tablets taken once daily at bedtime as needed. Your physician may start you on a lower dosage of Ambien initially, though. A typical starting dosage in the treatment of insomnia is one 5mg tablet taken as needed at bedtime. If you are taking other medications, your physician may recommend that you take no more than 5mg of Ambien regardless of the length of time you have used it to help you fall asleep.1

- Do not take more of this medication than your physician recommends.2
- Ambien works quickly, so take it right before you go to bed. Do not take Ambien and drive or attempt to perform any task that requires concentration.1
- Take Ambien with a glass of water, but do not take it with food as this can slow the absorption of the medication and delay your ability to sleep.1
- Ambien is meant for short-term usage. Do not use Ambien for more than two weeks.1
