Research Notes on Alzheimer's Disease and Life Expectancy
The issue of Alzheimer's disease and life expectancy is close to the heart of anyone who has a family member who suffers from the disease. The current belief is that 8 to 10 years after diagnosis is a realistic life expectancy. Some have survived as long as 20 years.1
Fast Facts:
- Gender seems to play some role in life expectancy, as women tend to live longer than men.2
- Survival time is shorter if the severity of symptoms are greater at the time of diagnosis.3
