Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma

Research Notes on Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma

Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare malignant (cancerous) tumor; it is among the least common sarcomas, representing less than 1% of soft tissue sarcomas. It is characterized by a painless mass in the leg or buttock, and tends to metastasize (spread) to the lungs. ASPS is very rare, because it involves a specific breaking and joining event between two chromosomes, called an "unbalanced translocation."
