Research Notes on Alupent and Breastfeeding
Alupent (metaproterenol) is thought to be safe to use while breastfeeding.1 It is unknown if Alupent passes through breast milk, but the low levels of the drug in blood make it unlikely that it would harm a nursing infant.2 If your doctor recommends using Alupent while breastfeeding, watch your child for side effects.2
Fast Facts:
- Alupent is used to treat the symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).1
- Possible side effects of using Alupent include headaches, tremors, and dry mouth.1
- During pregnancy, Alupent may not be safe to use.1
