Research Notes on Altitude Sickness
Altitude sickness is also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS). It is caused by acute exposure to low air pressure (usually outdoors at high altitudes). Another rarer type of altitude sickness caused by prolonged exposure to high altitude is chronic mountain sickness, also known as Monge's disease.

- Altitude Sickness commonly occurs above approximately 8,000 feet.
- Headache, a primary symptom of altitude sickness, can appear within hours. Other symptoms can include difficulty sleeping, poor appetite, nausea, and fatigue.
- About 67% of people who expose themselves to these high altitudes will develop Altitude Sickness.
