Alternatives to Amniocentesis

Research Notes on Alternatives to Amniocentesis

Amniocentesis is highly dependable as a diagnostic test for genetic abnormalities but in order to do this procedure there must be sufficient amniotic fluid in the mother's womb. This is usually around the 14th or 15th week of pregnancy. There are other procedures available that can be done earlier and less invasively. These procedures are chorionic villus sampling, multiple marker screening, and ultrasound studies.
