Alternative Pain Management

Research Notes on Alternative Pain Management

Pain management’s main goal is to relieve pain. A multidisciplinary approach which includes pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic, and psychological measures is normally used to treat pain. Some pain medications, especially in very high doses, have health-threatening side effects, and may cause dependence or addiction. Alternative treatment approaches such as acupuncture, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and yoga are options for managing chronic pain in place of pain-relieving drugs.
