Research Notes on Alphatrex
Alphatrex is a brand name for the drug betamethasone. It is a corticosteroid skin cream that is used to treat allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis.1 A dental paste made from Alphatrex is used to treat mouth ulcers.1 Insect bites, poison ivy, and dermatitis are also sometimes treated using Alphatrex.2 For complete information, see the betamethasone WisdomCard.
Fast Facts:
- When used in large amounts, Alphatrex can cause birth defects. 3
- You may be advised to switch to bottle feeding if you are a breastfeeding mother.3
- If you experience unusual itching, burning, redness or swelling that was not present before using Alphatrex, contact your physician as soon as possible.4
- You do not need to bandage the treated area unless directed to do so by your physician.4
