Research Notes on Alpha-Blockers

Alpha blockers are a drug/medication that is taken to relax smooth muscles and keep blood vessels open to allow blood flow. They also help men with prostate problems improve urine flow by relaxing the bladder. Primarily given to people with diagnosis' of high blood pressure (hypertension), benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, and Raynaud's disease. Alpha blockers are also known as alpha-adrenergic antagonists.

  • Linked to complications with eye health, and cataract surgery.
  • There are short term and long term medications that can be taken based on your personal need.
  • Have been found to also help with expulsion of urethral stones.
  • Most common alpha blockers are Doxazosin, Prazosin, and Terazosin.
