Research Notes on Almonds


Almonds are high in monounsaturated fats, the "good fat," that helps lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. Almonds are also a source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and appear to decrease after-meal rises in blood sugar, helping protect against diabetes. The heart-healthy almond is actually closely related to peaches, cherries, and apricots, but we eat the seed of the fruit rather than the fruit itself. Go nuts!
