Research Notes on Almonds
Almonds are high in monounsaturated fats, the "good fat," that helps lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. Almonds are also a source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and appear to decrease after-meal rises in blood sugar, helping protect against diabetes. Almonds are also little energy pellets, filled with magnesium, which helps make the conversion of energy in your body more efficient and boosts mood. The heart-healthy almond is actually closely related to peaches, cherries, and apricots, but we eat the seed of the fruit rather than the fruit itself. Go nuts!
