Research Notes on Allergen Immunotherapy
Allergen immunotherapy is a type of treatment that is done to decrease sensitivity to substances that trigger allergies. This therapy is done by injecting allergens into patients for several months. The amount of allergen increases with each therapy session. Allergen immunotherapy has also been shown to prevent new allergies.1
Fast Facts:
- Allergen immunotherapy is not recommended for food allergies.
- This therapy is not recommended for children under the age of 5.
- Maintenance therapy can last up to 5 years.
- May be effective in some cases of eczema.1
