Most allergic reactions to hair color is caused by the chemical para-phenylenediamine (PPD), found in over 66 per cent of hair dyes. Reactions can lead to dermatitis on the face and even facial swelling. It can present with symptoms ranging from tingling and discomfort, to redness and swelling of the ears, neck eyelids, and forehead.
