Research Notes on Allerdryl and Pregnancy
Allerdryl, a sedating type of antihistamine, is considered relatively safe for use during pregnancy. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has listed Allerdryl as a category B drug, indicating that while no well controlled studies have been performed on pregnant women, tests on pregnant animals showed no substantial risks to the developing fetus. As with any medication, it is important to speak openly with your physician regarding Allerdryl usage during your pregnancy.1

- Allerdryl is a name brand of the generic medication diphenhydramine.2
- Allerdryl is known to enter the breast milk of nursing mothers, therefore, it may be recommended that you switch to bottle feeding while taking Allerdryl.2
- Allerdryl may be recommended for use in the treatment of many conditions, including: allergic reactions, skin rash, hives, runny nose, sneezing, motion sickness, anxiety, insomnia, and Parkinson's disease.3
