Research Notes on Alcohol's Health Risks Differ by Gender


Alcohol's health effects on men and women were studied over a 14 year period in Japan. The study found that men who drank heavy had a 19 percent lower risk of dying from coronary heart disease. These drinkers also had a 48 percent higher risk of stroke. In women heavy drinking caused a much higher risk of heart disease and a 92 percent higher risk of stroke.
