Research Notes on Albuterol Inhaler
Albuterol inhalers are used for the quick-relief of asthma or asthma-like symptoms. Albuterol is a bronchodilator medication, whick dilates the bronchial tubes or airways. Albuterol inhalers relieve the asthma symptoms of wheezing, chest tightness, cough, and shortness of breath. Albuterol inhalers are in the form of a metal cannister producing a fine mist that is inhaled through the mouth.1
Fast Facts:
- After December 31, 2008, the change from albuterol metered dose inhalers (MDIs) to HFA-type inhalers was made.1
- Albuterol is sold under the name brands ProAir HFA, Proventil HFA, and Ventolin HFA.1
- Side effects may include shaking or tremors, mouth or throat irritation, headache, dizziness, cough, and trouble sleeping.2
