This WisdomCard managed by: Nicole Kinsey

An adenoma is a benign tumor of a glandular origin. An adenoma may form in a similar way to a malignant or cancerous tumor, but adenomas do not metastasize or spread to other organs or tissue. If an adenoma does become cancerous, it is called an adenocarcinoma.

Fast Facts:

  • -- Adenomas can form in the colon, liver, adrenal gland, thyroid, pituitary, kidney, breast, and appendix
  • -- Adenomas are often discovered by accident when you are being examined for another problem
  • -- Surgery is the most common treatment
  • -- Prognosis is very good, as adenomas are benign and rarely cause additional problems
