Research Notes on Adderall and Pregnancy
Adderall, a brand name for the combination of the generic drugs amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, is labeled as a pregnancy category C drug by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. There may be a risk of fetal harm, premature birth, low birth weight, or withdrawal symptoms in a newborn if the mother takes Adderall during pregnancy. This medication should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the unborn baby. Adderall is used in the treatment of narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).1
