Research Notes on Adderall Addiction
Adderall (amphetamine and dextroamphetamin) is a controlled substance and has a very high risk of addiction.1 Adderall should not be taken for a long period of time due to the risk of drug dependence.2 Addiction to Adderall occurs when there is repeated use of the prescription stimulant and tolerance and dependency build over time.3 Symptoms of addiction to Adderall may include anxiety, psychosis, sexual dysfunction, and even heart failure.4

- Adderall is used in the treatment of ADHD.5
- Signs of an overdose of Adderall may include restlessness, tremors, hyperreflexia, rapid respiration, confusion, assaultiveness, hallucinations, panic states, hyperpyrexia, rhabdomyolysis,6 and a very rapid or irregular heart beat.4
- Adderall is a stimulant drug that could increase blood pressure and heart rate while constricting blood vessels.3
- A person is considered addicted to Adderall when they need the medication in order to make it through the day.7
