Research Notes on Acute Stress Disorder
Acute stress disorder is a condition resulting from a psychological shock.1 It is not related to the “shock” of the circulatory system.1 It often results in the affected person being in a “daze” after the onset of the shock.1 Acute Stress Disorder is also closely related with post traumatic stress disorder and is often talked about in conjunction with this disorder.1

- Also called acute stress reaction, psychological shock, or mental shock.1
- First described by Walter Cannon in the 1920’s.1
- The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal-axis is a major component to acute stress disorder.1
