Research Notes on Acupuncture for Smoking Cessation
Quitting smoking can be a challenge. Instead of drug treatments, there are alternative methods to help you quit, such as acupuncture, hypnotherapy, and laser therapy. Acupuncture therapy should be administered by an acupuncturist that specializes in treatment of addictions. One research study examining acupuncture and smoking cessation found a 40% cessation rate at 18 months after treatment, compared to a 20-25% cessation rate after one year of completed drug and behavioral therapy treatments.1
Fast Facts:
- Treatment is safe and should not cause pain.2
- Acupuncture may help reduce nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms.3
- Research on the effectiveness of acupuncture for smoking cessation is limited.1
