Research Notes on Acupuncture Impacts Pain Effect on Brain
A new study has shown that acupuncture affects certain receptors in the brain. These receptors are responsible for processing and suppressing pain signals. This is the first study to provide imaging of acupuncture's affect on the brain.1
Fast Facts:
- Around 20 women who have been previously diagnosed with fibromyalgia were involved in this study.2
- Patients currently on opioids may see a greater medication response after acupuncture.2
- This study is published in the September 2009 Journal of NeuroImage.
