Research Notes on Active Children Sleep Better
A July 2009 study confirms what many parents have known for years, active children fall asleep faster and stay sleeping longer than inactive children. This study also reveals that the longer it takes to actually fall asleep, the shorter the sleep time. An increased risk of obesity and poor school performance has previously been linked to bad sleep patterns.1
Fast Facts:
- This study involved over 500 children.2
- Every hour a child sits sedentary, they require three more minutes to fall asleep.2
- There was no difference between sitting while watching television and sitting to read.2
- This study is published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood.1
