Research Notes on Actifed and Pregnancy
Actifed should only be used in pregnancy when the benefits to the mother clearly outweigh any risks to the fetus.1 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not categorized Actifed, but the combination of individual ingredients (pseudoephedrine and triprolidine) carries a category C label.2 There have been no well controlled studies of the effects of Actifed on pregnant women.1
Fast Facts:
- It has been recommended that Actifed be avoided during the first trimester.3
- Actifed is not recommended for use while breastfeeding.2
- Actifed is available over-the-counter to treat common cold symptoms, nasal congestion, sneezing, and allergies.2
