Achilles bursitis (Retrocalcaneal bursitis) is a painful inflammation of the fluid-filled sac (bursa) between the Achilles tendon and heel bone. Repetitive stress on the ankle due to excessive walking, running, or jumping can result in irritation, inflammation, and pain on the back of the foot. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, shoe modifications, and rest can help in decreasing the pain.
