Research Notes on Acetylcysteine Uses
Acetylcysteine is used to treat lung conditions that cause an increased production of mucus, making breathing difficult. These conditions include emphysema, pneumonia, bronchitis, or amyloidosis of the lung. Acetylcysteine dissolves mucus, making it easier to cough up.1

- Mucomyst is administered via inhalation.2
- Acetylcysteine may be alternatively use to treat an acetaminophen overdose.2
