Research Notes on Acetylcysteine Dosage
The dosage of Acetylcysteine depends upon the patient's condition and response to treatment. When used as a mucolytic agent, acetylcysteine comes in either a 20% or 10% solution that may be further diluted before inhalation. In the case of an acetaminophen overdose, acetylcysteine is administered orally. This treatment requires an initial loading dose, followed by 17 maintenence doses given at four hour intervals.1
