Abortion Not a Risk Factor for Mental Health Problems

Research Notes on Abortion Not a Risk Factor for Mental Health Problems

According to the American Phychological Association a single elective abortion of an unwanted pregnancy does not affect a woman's risk of mental health problems. This new study could find no scientific evidence to support claims that after an abortion a woman has a higher risk of anxiety or depression. However, they did find that women who have an abortion of a wanted pregnancy due to fetal abnormalities, have similar responses as those who experience a miscarriage, stillbirth or death of a newborn.
