Bipolar disorder or manic depressive illness is characterized by mood swings. Abilify (aripiprazole) and other antipsychotic medications have proven effective in treating the disorder. Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic prescribed for patients with bipolar disorder to treat acute manic and mixed episodes in adults and pediatric patients 10 to 17 years old.1
