Research Notes on Abdominal Tumors in Cats
Abdominal tumors are common, yet hard to diagnose early on. Blood work, ultrasounds and x-rays are used to diagnose these tumors. Three common treatments for cats are radiation, surgery and chemotherapy.1
Fast Facts:
- Signs of an abdominal tumor are weight loss and abdominal swelling.
- Hemangiosarcoma, mast cell tumors and liver cancers are a few types of feline abdominal tumors.2
- Rupture of a tumor with resultant bleeding may be a sign of hemangiosarcomas.3
- Primary liver cancer is rare, making up only two percent of feline cancers.
