In November of 1882 Harriet Walker opened what would become Northwestern Hospital for Women and Children. The first structure built specifically for hospital use was on June 10, 1887, at the corner of Chicago Avenue and 27th Street in Minneapolis. Present day Abbott Northwestern Hospital has a total of 926 beds, with 55 full time physicians and 44 resident physicians.
