Research Notes on Abatacept for Rheumatoid Arthritis
Abatacept is prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Abatacept works to reduce the inflammation and pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis.1 Used alone or in combination with other drugs, abatacept helps to slow the progression of joint damage.1 Abatacept is usually prescribed when other therapies have been unsuccessful in treating the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.1
Fast Facts:
- Possible side effects of using abatacept include headache, upper respiratory infection, and sore throat.2
- Abatacept is administered in an IV infusion that is given every 4 weeks.2
- Before receiving abatacept, your doctor may give you acetaminophen and diphenhydramine to prevent side effects from the infusion.1
