Consult with your physician if you should discover you are pregnant while taking abatacept, as this medication may not be safe during pregnancy. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has listed abatacept as a category C medication, indicating that it has not been well studied in pregnant women. When deciding whether you should continue abatacept therapy, your physician will carefully weigh the benefits you receive from this medication against any potential risks to your baby.1

- Abatacept is the generic form of the brand name medication Orencia that is sometimes recommended in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.2
- It is unclear whether abatacept is excreted in the breast milk of breastfeeding women.2
