Abatacept is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Abatacept is a protein that prevents the immune system from causing damage to tissue around the joints. It slows structural damage of the joints and improves their functioning.1

- Abatacept is a drug marketed under the brand name Orencia.2
- Do not use abatacept if you are using the drugs anakinra, etanercept, or infliximab.1
- Abatacept is administered via injection by a physician or nurse.2
- The most common side effects of abatacept are headache, respiratory tract infection, and nausea.2
