Research Notes on Abatacept Side Effects
As with most medications, there is a risk of side effects associated with the use of abatacept (Orencia). Some of the most commonly reported side effects include coughing, back pain, heartburn, and headaches. More serious side effects that should be reported to your physician include trouble breathing, hives, and unusual swelling.1 For a complete list of side effects, see the following links below.

- Nearly fifty-four percent of patients taking abatacept have reported an increase of infections.1
- Other side effects that have been reported with the use of abatacept include runny nose, sore throat, and dizziness.2
- Abatacept is given by injection to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.2
