APC (adenomatosis polyposis coli) is a tumor suppressor gene, which means that it keeps cells from growing and dividing too fast or in an uncontrolled way. Mutations in the APC gene have been identified in families with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and Turcot syndrome, two genetic causes of colon cancer.
