Research Notes on ANK3 Gene
The ANK3 gene encodes for a protein called Ankyrin 3. This protein is found in gaps formed between myelin sheath cells along axons or nerve fibers in the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. Abnormal expression of the ANK3 gene can disrupt surface expression of sodium in cardiomyocytes.1
Fast Facts:
- The ANK3 gene is located on chromosome 10 at position q21.1
- The ANK3 gene is located around the polycystic kidney disease gene, jcpk.2
- A mutation in the ANK3 gene can result in Brugada syndrome.1
