Research Notes on ALS Risk Not Increased by Statins
Recent research shows that there is no link between statins and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. 41 long-term trials were conducted to find the link between the cholesterol lowering medication and ALS. Over 100,000 patients were studied and it was found that of the statin takers, 4.2 out of 100,000 had a risk to develop this disease, while 5 out of the 100,000 that were taking a placebo, were at risk to develop ALS.
