ALS

ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries. One of the most famous victims of this disease is Lou Gehrig, the professional baseball player for whom it is named. Dr. Stephen Hawking is one of the longest-lived survivors, still living and working decades after his initial diagnosis. ALS affects as many as 30,000 Americans, with 5,600 new cases diagnosed in the US each year. There is no known way to prevent ALS.
