Research Notes on ALK Gene
The ALK gene is called anaplastic lymphoma kinase. Mutations in the ALK gene are associated with neuroblastoma. The 2;5 chromosomal translocation is associated with anaplastic large cell lymphomas (ALCLs). The translocation creates a fusion between the ALK gene on chromosome 2 and the nucleophosmin (NPM) gene on chromosome 5.1
Fast Facts:
- ALK plays an important role in the development of the brain.1
- The ALK gene is located on chromosome 2 at position p23.1
- Fusion between the NPM and ALK genes leads to the function of an abnormal protein called p80 that transfers phosphate groups from ATP to a protein.1
