Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition that is characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and hyperactivity. The exact cause of ADHD is still unknown but it is related with several medical conditions and risk factors. One of the medical conditions believed to cause ADHD is abnormal levels of certain brain chemicals called neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. Dopamine stimulates the brain's attention centers. So a person with low amounts of dopamine may show symptoms of ADHD.
