Research Notes on ADHD Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type
Predominatly hyperactive-impulsive is a subtype of ADHD. The behaviors of this type of ADHD include impulsivity, hyperactivity, fidgeting, and restlessness.1 ADHD is a neurobehavioral disorder and affects approximately five to fifteen percent of school-aged children.2 To be diagnosed with ADHD, behaviors must be present for at least six month and be severe enough to disrupt school and home life.3

- Talking excessively, blurting out, interrupting, and difficulty awaiting his/her turn are other behaviors exhibited with predominatly hyperactive-impulsive ADHD.4
- This type is considered the "classic" type of ADHD.5
- Predomininantly hyperactive-impulsive type occurs two to nine more time in boys than girls.2
- As children get older and learn self-control, hyperactive symptoms may decrease with age.1
